Kanaga (Mask)
Kanaga (Mask)
Kanaga (Mask) - Dogon Tribe
The Kanaga is regarded as one of the most important masks to the animist Dogon. It represents their God, Amma, creator of heaven and earth.
The two raised arms symbolise the sky, the middle the universe and the two lower arms the earth. The colours also have meaning; white is happiness, black darkness and red is the blood of sacrifice.
Built into the cliff, one can see the ancient Tellem homes and grain stores, some said to be 3000 years old!
